A Christmas season to remember. Yeah.

Just lost a whole blog entry I had typed up. Yet another reason to be pissed off tonight. Reason one is that I continue to be screwed over at work. But I'm not gonna start ranting on that. If I don't get myself calmed down tonight, I'll end up punching a co-worker tomorrow.

But the main thing I'm pissed off about is how pissed off everyone is about this whole Merry Christmas bullshit.

Tonight one of my customers, after their meal, wished me a very happy holiday. It was one moment during a crappy shift when I felt... well... good. Sure, I celebrate Christmas. But what difference does it make that she didn't specify the good holiday I was supposed to have? Since when is it not enough to be friendly and sincere?

You know, I sent out postcards on behalf of my home business last month. They said "Happy Holidays" on them and had a picture of snowy trees. I sent them as a sincere thank you to all the people who have purchased artwork and encouraged me professionally over the years. I did it to let my customers know that I really appreciated them. And now I'm supposed to feel bad and guilty and discriminatory because I didn't use the word Christmas? That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Doesn't seem very "Christmas spirit" to me, either. What happened to Good Will Towards Men? Seems to me like so much good will and good intention is being greeted with a slap in the face.

Personally, I doubt stores like Target are taking much of a hit to their bottom line. So boycott away, everybody. Try to impose your preferences on the rest of the world. Let yourself revel in anger and indignance and have your bitch-fests whenever some well-meaning and overworked service sector employee wishes you a happy holiday. Personally, I hope Santa leaves some coal in your stocking. And then shoves that stocking up your ass.
