Music and such

Okay, so I have to admit that for somebody as into music as I am, I have a hard time keeping up with the different labels and names and styles that everything fits under and what's what. I mean, I know the words and sometimes I kinda know what they mean, but hell if I can tell you the detailed differences. The other day I was making myself a profile here to put my music on at some, um, much later date and when I clicked that box to identify what genre I fit in I was more than a bit confused at all the choices. Hadn't even heard of a bunch of them, really. I'm really out of the loop, I guess.

So, you know, I'm sitting here sewing and putzing around and listening to my iTunes and No Doubt's "Different People" comes on and it suddenly dawns on me just how much they sound like Oingo Boingo. And I have long worshiped Oingo Boingo 'cause that right there is total genius translated into song. It had never once occurred to me that Oingo Boingo was ska.

Okay, so that probably makes me kinda dumb. Whatever. I'd like to think of myself as simply not a music snob. If I like it, I like it, and labels be damned and I'm not going to sit around and pontificate about it all like, um, my little brother does about movies. (No offense, Joel.)

But, you know, kind of a cool thing to have figured out all of a sudden. I feel a little bit more, I don't know, clued in.

Yeah, I'll shut up now.
